A sunset beach ceremony, honeymoon portraits and a wedding ring recovered from the ocean

The final part of our journey to Sara and Bilal’s wedding was by seaplane. After documenting another wedding in Dubai, we arrived at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, touching down on the water near our beach bungalow.

Their wedding brought us to the Maldives for a ceremony by the Indian Ocean and two further days of photography together. From the beginning, the affection between Sara and Bilal gave the photographs their warmth. The island provided the setting; the way they were together gave us the story.

A Beach Ceremony at Sunset

Sara and Bilal held their ceremony on the beach as the sun was setting. Music they had chosen themselves accompanied the celebration, giving it a personal rhythm and an easy, relaxed atmosphere.

The ocean and the changing light became part of the wedding photographs. Within that open setting, I concentrated on the connection between the two of them: their closeness and the affection they shared throughout the ceremony.

It was a simple combination of place, light and personal choices that made the celebration feel like theirs.

Two More Days of Photography

After the wedding, we stayed for two further days, continuing the photography along the beach and at their villa.

The beach sessions had a playful, candid feel. Later, we created a more personal honeymoon portrait series around the place where they were staying. Having this additional time meant we could explore different approaches without fitting everything into the wedding day.

Together, the photographs follow both the ceremony and the days afterwards, when Sara and Bilal could enjoy more time together by the ocean.

The Wedding Ring That Found Its Way Back

During the session at their villa, Sara jumped from the terrace into the Indian Ocean. In the process, she lost her wedding ring.

For a moment, the story took an unexpected turn. A ring that had only just become part of their wedding memories was now somewhere in the water.

Fortunately, a swimmer passing nearby found it, and Sara got her ring back.

That fortunate ending became one of the most memorable stories of our time together. Alongside the sunset ceremony and the beach portraits, there was now this very human episode: an unexpected loss, a stranger’s help and the relief of having something precious returned.
