Susan & Stefan’s Wedding in Bali | Tirtha Bridal Uluwatu

A clifftop ceremony, an underwater kiss and five days exploring Bali

Susan and Stefan brought their wedding plans from Munich to Bali, choosing a destination with a personal connection: Susan’s family is from Indonesia. Their celebration at Tirtha Bridal Uluwatu became the beginning of a longer journey, with five days of photography and filming around the island after the wedding.

My team and I joined them from the start at Kuta Beach. The waves, the open shoreline and the sunset introduced the coastal setting that would remain part of their photographs and film throughout our time together.

Personal Messages Before the Ceremony

Before seeing each other in their wedding clothes, Susan and Stefan exchanged personal messages. Already dressed and preparing for the day ahead, they took time to share their thoughts with one another.

These words added a personal dimension to the wedding. Alongside the places and events, there was room for what they wanted to say to each other before the ceremony began.

Their wedding took place at Tirtha Bridal Uluwatu, overlooking the ocean from the edge of a steep cliff. The carefully designed setting combined contemporary details with the openness of the surrounding landscape. The sea and the height of the location gave the ceremony a distinctive backdrop.

An Underwater Kiss After Dark

As evening arrived, the lights around the venue reflected in the pool, joined by the flashes of the fireworks. The setting changed with the darkness, opening up new possibilities for the photographs and film.

Then Susan jumped into the pool.

Stefan was waiting for her, and the two shared an underwater kiss beneath the colourful evening lights. It was a playful, spontaneous turn in a day that had already held so much emotion, and one of the most distinctive moments of their wedding story.

Five More Days Around the Island

After the wedding, we continued travelling together for five days, creating photographs and film sequences in different parts of Bali.

We followed Susan and Stefan along beaches, through rice fields and into mountain and volcanic landscapes. The journey also included encounters with monkeys, an elephant ride and visits to places connected to the island’s cultural heritage.

Working together over several days gave us time to explore different settings and ideas. There were moments of movement and play, including running along the beach, alongside more intimate portraits of the two of them.

The resulting collection brings their wedding and the days afterwards into one story. The ceremony at Uluwatu, the nighttime swim and the journey around Bali each preserve a different part of the experience they shared.

Susan and Stefan, thank you for inviting us to accompany you, from your wedding day to the adventures that followed.
